About the artist
“An entertaining vocalist who can cover jazz, pop, rock and blues in duo, trio, quartet or large band.”
Being able to sing and knowing how to sing, are really two different things. In a musical landscape that is rich with vocalists, it is not too difficult to find someone with a fine voice. But when that voice is used properly and awakens an emotion, that's when you have a real singer. Combine the soft and sultry jazz stylings of Ella Fitzgerald with the Pop side of Linda Ronstadt and what do you get? A real singer, a vocal dynamo, a performer who takes her craft and turns into an art. Introducing, Calgary’s Julie Boyle. Performing and singing has been in Julie's veins for as long as she can remember. "My dad was playing classic recordings like Django Reinhardt and Stephen Grappelli all the time. Then there was Ella, Judy Garland, Sinatra, Dean Martin. This was my foundation, my musical building blocks, if you will. Later on it was others like Diana Krall, Rebecca Kilgore, and Linda Ronstadt that really influenced me." Through the years Julie has sung with acoustic groups, jazz nights at local clubs, in duos, garage bands, swing dance bands, and for the last 15 years she has been a member of the Ad Hoc Band, a Pop-oriented group that plays to raise funds for different charities. The ability to touch many different genres would be a challenge for most especially when there is an apparent disparity in the style of music. For Julie, it all comes down to feeling the song, understanding the emotion that went into the music, and being able to translate that all with a voice that easily crosses genres and makes listeners take notice.
