Belfast-born songwriter and poet Andy White makes a welcome return to Calgary on March 27 to launch ‘Good Luck I Hope You Make It’ at the Ironwood Stage. Since debuting at the Folk Festival in 1998 Andy has performed many times in Calgary, both solo and with Stephen Fearing as folk super-duo Fearing & White. Along the way, CKUA have been major supporters and Andy can’t wait to have a wee dram with Pat and the folks at the Ironwood. The show will focus on the new album’s funky spoken-word tracks and previous album ‘This garden is only temporary’, both of which were mixed at Studio D in Calgary and feature Kent Macrae on drums. On the new album, White returns to his literary roots. Inspired as much by Beat poetry and Hip Hop as Bob Dylan and Billy Bragg, words come tumbling out of the new songs just as they did in career highlights Religious Persuasion, Looking for James Joyce’s Grave and Street Scenes from My Heart.
