About
Heather Jean Jordan is a singer-songwriter who captivates audiences of all ages with her timeless, evocative songs, her warmth and spirit, and her sweet, soulful voice.
Heather Jean Jordan is a Manitoba farm-girl who trained as an opera singer before finding her home in Banff and falling in love with folk music. The sweet sounds of ukulele and keys accompany this singer-songwriter's soaring vocals. A gifted and versatile performer, Heather Jean’s original music honours the folk tradition while drawing from a wide range of influences including Classical, Celtic, Country, Broadway, and Jazz. Playing to all ages, Heather Jean makes any stage feel like a living room filled with your closest friends. She has graced stages, libraries, senior's homes, community centres, and schools across the prairies- her rural roots showing through in a love of nature, community, and a good laugh. Heather Jean's debut album 'Some Dappled Night' honours both old and new in its folk sensibilities. Icelandic and Celtic ancestors find voice alongside the mountains and trees, widows and wanderers, squirrels and dormice of the Canadian hinterland. Centered around the stories we tell ourselves, mythic themes meld with earthly concerns in this exploration of our place in the family of things. Soaring vocals, delicate ukulele, and supernatural keys - think 60's Judy Collins meets David Lynch. https://heatherjeanjordan.bandcamp.com/album/some-dappled-night Heather Jean's Take: "For me, music is home. It's where I find myself. Growing up on a farm in a very rural area, music was where we could meet in joy- the weight of the day's work falling away to laughter, song, and dance. Drawing from those experiences, my goal in performance and educational experiences is always to invite people into an environment of curiosity, play, and kindness. Come as you are, immerse yourself in the experience, loosen your grip, and allow the beauty of the moment to flow through you. We're in this together." Testimonials: Performances: "Heather Jean Jordan is a singer-songwriter who captivates any audience of any age with her timeless, evocative songs, her warmth and spirit, and her sweet, soulful voice. Whether performing on stage or conducting a workshop, Heather's artistry, dedication, creativity and persona shine, making for a memorable and most enjoyable experience." -Kurt Bagnell Past Artistic Director Canmore Folk Festival/Former Manager of Presentations at Banff Centre Passionate about sharing and experiencing music as a group, Heather is a very natural performer. While on stage or sitting across from you, Heather gives off the warmth you feel from an old friend who has just arrived from a fantastical journey with an engaging story to tell" - Amy Urquhart, Carberry Plains Arts Council Workshops: "...This ukulele songstress has a wealth of study and experience playing the ukulele, all the knowledge you need to start you on your path to campfire singalong stardom... What really makes Heather Jean special is not specifically her talent, but her ability to recognize the needs of her participants in the moment...You may not be the soulful folk singing sensation that is the lovely Heather Jean Jordan, but you can play too!" - The Carberry News-Express “Heather Jean Jordan spent an incredible morning of songwriting with my Grade Four and Five classes. The activity began with brainstorming topics for their song. Students were immediately drawn to Heather as she has a way of making each child feel included, each idea valuable, and each moment engaging. Heather helped narrow down ideas and guide students to make lyrics organized into clever phrases with a fun rhyming scheme. It was clear how much students enjoyed this experience through their joyful laughter, numerous offerings of ideas, energetic singing, and wish for their time with her to not end. Heather was very effective in encouraging participation, pacing the session, sequencing the steps, supporting ideas, and inspiring students’ creative side. I look forward to bringing Heather back to work with my students soon.” - Charlene McPherson, Teacher, Winnipeg School Division
