Vanessa Castro grew up in the south of Chile, and has been inspired by Chilean folklore and Rap from a young age. Her interest in R&B and Hip Hop culture has led her to develop her singing and MC-ing skills, becoming an indelible part of the Calgary underground scene. She learned to play guitar to sing along at age 12 and from then on, she taught herself covers of songs she loved. In 2020, after a couple years of learning to freestyle in rap circles, she began writing her own songs, which she now performs in combination with her favourite covers. Vtopia offers a relaxing atmosphere curating unique folk, R&B and Trip Hop songs from artists like Lianne La Havas, Massive Attack, and Anita Tijoux.
