About
Folk pop music from Lethbridge, Alberta with two guitars, two voices and relatable lyrics.
For the past five years, Alberta duo Pistols and Parachutes have been sneaking time in amongst full-time jobs and family commitments to put together their most recent album. “We’ve been a band for almost 15 years, and we’ve put out music before, but it’s never sounded like this,” says Matt (Vanden Dungen, guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter). “We started recording some sort of singer-songwriter/folk influenced thing a few times, but we always got swept up by the allure of the whole rock thing.” The new, self-titled, album features re-recorded songs from some of the band’s previous projects as well as a batch of new songs which have never been released before. At the core of each of them are vulnerable, relatable lyrics, chronicling the process of growing up, becoming the person you’re going to be, and wrestling with life’s struggles, fears, and loves. Musically, the record pulls influences from the band’s diverse musical heroes, from Jon Foreman, Blue Rodeo, Ed Sheeran, and Mumford & Sons to Noah Kahan and “Folklore Era” Taylor Swift. “This is a Pandemic Era album that took us too long to make. It took us so long to make, that by the time we’re putting it out most people seem to have forgotten that the pandemic even happened.” But, pandemic or no pandemic, the newest single "I Have Always Found You" is available now. Pistols and Parachutes' latest batch of songs, pulled from many years and from all corners of youth to young manhood, is finally arriving 2024.
