About
Postmodern Country Music
Kent McAlister’s songs hold the comfortable weight of your favorite coat on a cold prairie night. Singing modern tales of what is, and what used to be, he captures the honest grit of those weathered faces that belong to the cowboys at the end of the bar.
Not only an accomplished songwriter with three acclaimed albums to his name, McAlister is also a long-travelling veteran of the Canadian touring circuit. Now calling Calgary his home base, he is also a sought after lead guitar player. He has lent his lead skills to local projects such as Paradise Lanes, Rev Frank & The North Stars, Carter Felker, and Mariel Buckley, to name just a few.
Career highlights include:
- support act for Roseanne Cash at The Jack Singer 2015
- winner, 2nd place, Calgary Folk Fest songwriting competition 2015
- headliner: Downtown Calgary New Year’s Eve Celebration 2009
- winner, 1st place, Rawlco Radio battle of the bands 2008
- headliner: Big Valley Jamboree Molson Canadian Stage 2008
- Multi-date tour support for Corb Lund 2000-2003
- opening act for Johnny Cash's band, The Tennessee Three 2006
- multiple sold out shows in Vancouver (The Railway Club, The Cultch), Calgary (The Ironwood Stage), Edmonton (Sidetrack Cafe), Winnipeg (Times Changed), and Toronto (The Dakota Tavern).
