Gabriel Zacharias, born and raised in Brazil, is an artist who embodies the rhythms and sophisticated harmonies of Brazilian music, with a focus on Bossa Nova and Samba. Deeply influenced by the work of artists such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Milton Nascimento and Chico Buarque, he is also passionate about genres such as jazz, choro, frevo and classical guitar. He blends each of those influences effortlessly while delivering an authentic sound rooted in the traditions of his home country. One of his current projects is an authentic Bossa Nova quintet focused on performing Brazilian classics such as the legendary Getz/Gilberto album in its most authentic form: played on nylon string guitar with lyrics sung in the original Portuguese. This new group has played a sold out Getz/Gilberto tribute gig at the Asylum for Art in Calgary and was featured in the JazzWalk at TD JazzYYC Summer Festival to great acclaim.
